I have seen other bloggers do this and now I have my own bone to pick with J. Crew...
Dear J. Crew,
I do not appreciate getting this email from you (see below) three days after I placed an order for a necklace I have been lusting for for several months. Once an item is sold out, please remove it from your web site immediately so that I do not place an order that will never get to me. Leaving the items on your web site implies that you actually have enough in stock and gives hope to the thousands of ladies who covet your delightfully preppy clothing and accessories. I am now forced to begin a daily online stalking of the bronze version of this necklace - waiting patiently for that item to go on sale. Once it does I will purchase it and, hopefully, you will actually have one to send to me.
Bitter, sad, and disappointed in Virginia--

I could not find a picture of the lovely item I attempted to purchase but here is the other color. Now I must wait patiently for this color to go on sale. Anyone have one - in either color - they want to sell me? :)

Yes why does J Crew do this? I hate that little gray email and I've been burned enough to know if I order something online it's not a sure bet, especially during final sale!--so I try to adjust my expectations accordingly, haha but I'll still gripe about it. Hope you find the right one!!
J.Crew has been sucking lately for a number of reasons.
I actually unsubscribed from their emails, because free shipping on $150 is NOT a deal.
Also? I don't need 324,543 emails a day.
I love the necklace. If I pop into a store this weekend I will see if I can find one!
ugh! I have a love/hate relationship with jcrew, too. I ordered a monogrammed button down from them, and when it arrived, it fit great, but the monogram sat right on top of my, um... well, never mind. let's just say i would've been attracting a lot of attention if i wore this shirt out in public... they don't seem to get things right very often.
good luck finding your necklace!
The worste! I hope you are able to track it down!
They would be wise to at least offer a '10% off your next purchase' coupon to try to lessen the ouch. I love the perky last line of their email. Oh gee, thanks so much for not charging me. You're the greatest!
Btw, love the necklace also.
Ann Taylor Loft did the same thing to me with a dress :(
I hate when they do this....hopefully your letter will help.
Amen!
that is so frustrating!! that would make me so mad!!
I have the exact same gripe. I can't count how many times I've put something in my bag only to have it say "you have nothing in my shopping bag" when I try to check out. GRRR! There must be A LOT of size 14 girls who wear 11 shoes. ;-)
