A fabulous new store has opened in my hometown of McLean, VA. I stopped by this afternoon and love, love, love it! It's called the Preppy Pink Pony and it is a preppy girl's paradise. It opened last week so they are still getting things up and running but they have some lovely things. Check out their web site to get an idea of some of the items they offer. They carry many of my favorite brands including Dabney Lee and Lilly Pulitzer. The owner loves Lilly so much that her dog (who hangs out with her in the store) is named Lilly Pulitzer! It was adorable! Here are some of the things I have my eye on....

MCW from Saving the Best for Last tagged me in the Friday Tag Game. All I have to do is answer the 5 questions with 5 answers for each question and then tag 5 of my favorite bloggers and they do the same!
1. What were you doing 10 years ago?
* I was still a new freshman at the College of Charleston and having a really hard time adjusting - I was very homesick and missed my high school friends terribly.
* I was living in a 11' x 16' dorm room with a girl I wasn't so sure about. She was very Southern and prissy and it was a shock to me! Of course now, she is one of my BEST FRIENDS. She and I will be friends forever. :)
* I was traveling to Columbia, SC frequently to visit my sister and her family. She and I always had the best time together!
* I had bangs. Not cool, side swept bangs but unattractive, straight across my forehead bangs.
* I had just bought my first pair of Rainbow flip flops (a must-have at CofC) and still have my original pair ten years later!
2. What are 5 things on your To Do list today?
* Buy and send out a birthday card to one of my friends.
* Go to the mall and look for a new pair of jeans.
* Laundry. Lots of laundry.
* Return something to Michael's and maybe purchase some mums for my front step.
* Buy a bottle of wine for a dinner party tonight.
3. Snacks you enjoy?
* Lightly salted organic popcorn
* Granola bars
* String cheese
* Almonds
* Diet Pepsi
4. Where are 5 places you have lived?
* McLean, VA
* Charleston, SC
* James Island, SC
* Kinnelon, NJ
* That's it! Only four!
5. What are 5 things you would do if you were a billionaire?
* Buy new or pay off the houses of my parents, sisters, brother, and grandmother.
* Take my closest girlfriends on vacation for two weeks to a fabulous five star resort with luxury spa.
* Pick five struggling families to help by paying off a mortgage, buying a home, paying for college, treating them to Christmas gifts, etc.
* Buy and decorate houses in Charleston, SC; Nantucket, MA; New York, NY; London, UK; and Breckenridge, CO.
* Retire and travel, travel, travel. :)
I pass the 5 Friday Tag Day onto...
1. The Niemeyer Nest
2. Through Rose Colored Glasses
3. Stephanie
4. Nautical and Southern
5. Headbands and Handbags

A Letter to J. Crew
I have seen other bloggers do this and now I have my own bone to pick with J. Crew...
Dear J. Crew,
I do not appreciate getting this email from you (see below) three days after I placed an order for a necklace I have been lusting for for several months. Once an item is sold out, please remove it from your web site immediately so that I do not place an order that will never get to me. Leaving the items on your web site implies that you actually have enough in stock and gives hope to the thousands of ladies who covet your delightfully preppy clothing and accessories. I am now forced to begin a daily online stalking of the bronze version of this necklace - waiting patiently for that item to go on sale. Once it does I will purchase it and, hopefully, you will actually have one to send to me.
Bitter, sad, and disappointed in Virginia--
DC Prep
I could not find a picture of the lovely item I attempted to purchase but here is the other color. Now I must wait patiently for this color to go on sale. Anyone have one - in either color - they want to sell me? :)

A Word About Halloween Costumes....
Does it bother anyone else that the vast majority of Halloween costumes for women are - for lack of a better word - slutty? I went to peruse the costumes last night and found it nearly impossible to find one that wasn't cleavage-baring or super short. It is so irritating! Every conceivable costume is made "sexy" - sexy nurse, sexy pirate, sexy policewoman, sexy BEE?! Really?
Now, I would love, love, love to go as Betty Draper or Jackie Kennedy but feel those might be better with my own Don Draper or Jack Kennedy. So, now I am considering these three. As you can tell, I am leaning towards the 50's era but am also taking suggestions. I don't want to spend a lot of money and - for goodness sakes - nothing too revealing! What do you think? Any other suggestions?

I can't wait!
Whoa...this should be good.
In other news, I think I've posted this on here before but I am posting it again! Here is a lovely pink Longchamp bag I am selling. It is the medium size - approximately 10"x10". The bag is in great shape but the inside is a bit dirty. Email me (bdority@gmail.com) if you are interested or if you'd like more info/pics. I would love to sell it for $70 + shipping. Retails for $125.

For all the single ladies....
Have you bought the new Michael Buble album yet? If you haven't, you should. At the very least you should download the first single off the new album - "Haven't Met You Yet". I love it! For all the single ladies out there (like myself) listen to the words and have faith - your special someone is out there!!! I have had my fair share of down days lately due to my lack of boyfriend but this song gives me hope! I just had a thought - is it possible that Michael Buble is in fact the special someone I have been waiting for? I think so!
Also, I was so happy to read today that one of my favorite "Real Housewives" Bethenney Frankel is ENGAGED! Another single lady bites the dust.

Yay or Nay
I don't know if you are familiar with Switchflops but here's the gist: you buy one pair of flip flops in a neutral color but you can change the straps to compliment your outfit. Now the creator of Switchflops has expanded her line to include ballet flats. I tried on a pair yesterday and now I need your honest preppy opinion. First of all, let me say that they are unbelievably comfortable - like wearing a slipper. The way the flat works is that you buy additional pieces for the top of the shoe so you can switch out the "bling" - it easily snaps on and off. So, below are the two colors I am interested in with their original "bling" (I hate to use that word but I don't know how else to describe them!)
Here are the flats with some additional "bling" (ugh) options:
I think I like the bronze more because I could wear it with black and brown - what do you think???

Reality TV Confession....
I have yet another reality TV confession to share with you, my dear friends. I love, LOVE this show.....
Now, let me be clear - this does not mean I like the Dallas Cowboys football team. I loathe them because, well, I am a Redskins fan and we are taught to dislike the Cowboys from birth. BUT, this show is so good! First of all, I cannot do choreographed dance to save my life and I am amazed by people who can. Second, they work so hard and are so dedicated! They all have regular day jobs but must practice every evening. Third, watching people work out really, really hard really, really impresses me and hopefully will motivate me. :) Lastly, as hard as they work out and as much as they dance, none of them ever seems to sweat or have a hair out of place. This fascinates me - I need to know their secret! Anyway, the new season just started this past Saturday so check it out!

Preppy Baby Gifts -- Lindsay, don't look!!!
As I said in my last post, one of my BFFs had her first baby on Saturday. There are very few things I enjoy more than buying gifts so I am thrilled that I can now send lots of preppy baby gifts to little James! We threw a baby shower for James' mommy back in August and we gave her this....
Today I packed up a box of fun items for James and here they are....
These little socks make the BEST baby gifts! I got the Mary Janes for another dear friend who had a little girl and she loves them - her father calls them her "fancy socks".
What Southern mommy doesn't need a monogrammed pacifier clip?
And of course - a classic preppy baby gift - a Ralph Lauren onesie!
What are your favorite gifts to give to new babies/mommies?

A New Preppy Arrival!
I am so happy to report that my BFF Lindsay gave birth to her first child - James McGee Horton IV - yesterday afternoon. Mother and baby are doing well and, as you can see from the photo, he is a little angel! He is sure to be the preppiest of Southern gentlemen and I cannot wait to meet him! Congratulations!
